Springdale High School's Jose Vega was named the 2019 Arkansas' Gatorade Male Soccer Player of the Year. Vega is a two time winner of this award.
Students and their families were invited to spend the afternoon at Parson Hills Elementary. The No Kid Hungry Initiative in partnership with Tyson Foods served kids summer meals and had fun activities for everyone to participate in. The event was held to raise awareness about nationwide food insecurity and how to get kids connected to summer meals. #THEChoice

"Root Negative One", the Don Tyson School of Innovation robotics team that won the Inspire Award at the World Championships in Houston, has been selected to represent the United States as Team USA at the World Global Challenge in Dubai in October. Westwood students interested in robotics and video games had the time of their lives as their school hosted a week long NERDIES™ camp. Twenty-two students were recommended by their teachers based on their interest in robotics or video game development and their exemplary behavior in school to attend the NERDIES™ camp. They were able to attend the camp free thanks to Jane Hunt Meade donating nearly $8,000 to cover the cost of attendance. Rockline Industries covered the cost of each of the kits that students used to design and build robots throughout the week.

Aterra Lowe, who has served as an instructional facilitator the past two years at Helen Tyson Middle School, has been named assistant principal at Springdale Har-Ber High School. She replaces Jacob Hayward who was named principal at Siloam Springs High School.

Representatives from the United Way of Northwest Arkansas shared that Springdale School District is the recipient of the CLIP Grant and will be awarded $130,000 over the course of two years. By recognizing the importance of closing the achievement gap, the partnership with United Way will provide 300 1st grade students with rigorous tier 3 intervention in the area of reading each summer. #THEChoice

Megan Rojo, who has served as an instructional specialist for the past five years, has been named Early Childhood Center assistant director. She replaces Brandy Wolfenbarger who was elevated to the director at the school.
